What is company driver training?
Fleet driver training is where we provide information and testing to drivers that drive for your company. Companies have a legal obligation under the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to provide information, training and supervision to their drivers. Fleet driver training should have the following main objectives:
- Improve safety
- Reduce accidents
- Reduce maintenance costs
- Improve fuel economy.
There are continuous positive effects that can result from on-going driver training. These include an improvement in the health and well-being of the drivers, better scheduling processes and an improvement in profitability due to less vehicle downtime due to incidents.
Driver Training also provides a tool of defense in the unfortunate event of an injury or collision. Defense Lawyers love when you have documented, continuous and provable training to your fleet.
There are many aspects to training commercial drivers.
- Refreshing and enhancing knowledge of the road rules and laws
- Improving driving skills – hazard awareness, appropriate speeds, etc
- Improving driver health
- Reducing environmental impacts – progressive shifting, using cruise control to increase MPG’s further reducing your costs
- Reducing maintenance and downtime on vehicles, and maintaining their value.
How do you train commercial drivers?
Driver education using the web based videos– We have access to hundreds of training videos accessible from any internet accessible device. This allows your drivers to stay knowledgeable, compliant and ready to provide your customers unparalleled service.
Defensive driving courses– Not many providers can supply defensive driving training courses specifically tailored to your business. Our team will teach hazard awareness and vehicle control skills. With millions of miles in commercial vehicles under our belts, we can provide unmatched insight into your drivers approach to safety.
Telematics– Data logging for your vehicles can identify where drivers are driving unsafely, using too much fuel, choosing routes that are inappropriate, and more. We will track all of your performance items for you and provide regular reporting to give you the ability to make the best decisions for your company.
Driving assessment– We use a system to evaluate a driver’s current driving performance. This is best done by an experienced assessor who can then recommend a course of action.
Advanced driver training– Using tools such as an advanced safe driver class, and trainer ride-alongs can help identify driver training needs and areas of enhanced education. Providing on-going interpersonal resources gives your drivers the competitive advantage, and saves you money.
